Beat Connection – ‘Surf Noir’ EP

Seattle natives Jordan Koplowitz and Reed Juenger are doing that electronic dream-pop thing and they’re doing it very well indeed! Whilst I could, somewhat lazily, refer to the duo’s prominent Kraftwerk influences, I will instead point out the highly likeable and distinctly interesting qualities of the EP.

The EP flows from fuzzy pop to something a bit more dance driven in a haze of feel good synth. The collection of tracks starts strongly but ends on the somewhat more mediocre side of things, however, Beat Connection manage to offer something a little unique with each track. Euphoric moments pepper proceedings and add to that ‘bottled sunshine’ effect that makes you want to put your hands in the air like you just don’t care.

‘In The Water’ is my pick of the EP.  A prominent beat and airy vocals are backed up by steel drums and pan pipes – I recommend listening to it with a rum and juice in one hand and your sunglasses on indoors (damn you English drizzle!)  This is definitely a band to keep a watchful eye on.
